According to Rossacher, 1980, 258, this model can possibly be traced to the Chigi-Saraceni collection in Siena, a branch of the Pope’s family; however, more likely as it is not recorded in the Chigi -Saraceni collection, the model instead eventually entered the collection of the Pope’s nephew Don Flavio Chigi (see Raggio, 1983, 368ff). Subsequently, according the the dealer, the Detroit terracotta model was in the collections of Cardinal Conte Mattei; Conte Mattei di Pergola (**identified as the brother of Cardinal Conte Mattei); C.A. de Frey, Lucerne, Switzerland; purchased from Dr. Paul Drey, New York, NY
